How we can help you, the interior designer

How we can help you

You can become a member of the Institute of Interior Design. It's free. And it could bring you more work. Click here.

And here are three ways you can help us
  1. Become a tutor

We sometimes need one or two UK or US-based interior designers to act as tutors for our courses. You should want to help people learn the skills of interior design. It's rewarding work, and there's some kudos in being a tutor for the Institute of Interior Design. Some tutors find it helps them develop their knowledge and aids their career. For more information, write to us at IDtutor@inst.org

  2. Tel ll us how you did it

Are you a home-based interior designer? If so, tell us how you made it. We’d love to publish your story on the website, as an inspiration to others. Write to us at IDstories@inst.org. Here are some of the things you could mention.

  • What were you doing before you set up your own practice?
  • How did you get started?
  • Why did you set up your own business? (Was it redundancy, or was it something you’d always planned to do?)
  • What problems did you have to overcome?
  • What skills or attributes have helped you succeed?
  • Do you have any weak areas? (for example, doing the book keeping).
  • How big is your business, in terms of turnover, employees or office size? Have you grown?
  • Do you have favorite equipment or tools?
  • Do you remember your first client?
  • What do you wish you’d known when you first started?
  • How do you promote your practice?
  • What advice would you give to anyone setting up?
  • In what area do you live and work?

Do you have a photo we can use? Being able to put a face to the name always makes the story much more real.

  1. Write an article for the site.

We need some articles for the website. They could be about clients, suppliers, design ideas, marketing, presentation methods, pricing, administration, or some other subject.

If you'd like to contribute an article, please let us know. We can't pay, but we'll credit you as author, and create a link to your site.

Articles need to be 500+ words in length. If you suggest a title, we'll tell you whether we're likely to use the article. Click here to e-mail us your suggestion.
