Back to the list

Why did you decide to enrol on the course?

I am feeling a bit stagnant in the job I am in at the moment as an Advisory Teacher in Behaviour Management and as you would imagine I spend a great deal of time working in rather negative situations.
Writing has always been a passion, and although I am writing a novel at the moment, realise that copywriting is a more realistic way of making money as well as improving my writing skills.

Did you make any contact with the Institute before enrolling?

I did make contact with the Institute before enrolling, but in the back of my mind I still felt hesitant. As an Australian and not knowing any other writers, I was not sure whether the Institute really existed. It certainly is a bit of a leap of faith.

What was your impression of your course when it arrived?

At first glance it all looked very exciting. The manual and info. given is all very comprehensive. The first thing I did was look at all of the assignments, and all of these are very well thought out.

Did you consider any other courses?

Very briefly I looked at other creative writing courses, but found that this would be a great way to write creatively and hopefully make a living while still finding time to write novels.

Ultimately, what do you want to do?

Ultimately I'd love to be an author of children's books. I have the experience with working with kids to know what their likes are as well as their concerns. I can incorporate possible solutions to all of the issues they have in my writing.

How are you progressing with your course?

I thundered through the first few assignments. They were rather easy and a great way to begin the course. Lately though the assigments have required a lot more thought and even a bit of extra study on how particular businesses run. Very realistic in what I'm expecting to encounter.

What might you say to someone who was thinking of enrolling on the course?

If you have a passion for writing go for it. It's a great feeling as you start to realise your potential. If you do choose to enroll in the course, remember that you're not alone and that there are other students you can talk to for advice, as well as your tutors who are very quick in responding to emails.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

The most exciting things that occur to you in life are always those things that require taking a bit of a risk. Be bold!!
