I am currently pursuing a doctorate in Human Lactation and Reproductive Counselling. Most of my counselling experience has been through my work. I wanted more formal instruction. When I discovered the Diploma in Counselling Course I alerted my doctoral committee and they agreed to allow me to incorporate the Diploma in Counselling Course within my doctoral program.
Did you make any contact with the Institute before enrolling?
I think I just asked if it was possible from a Canadian Student to enroll and received a positive response.
What was your impression of the course when it arrived?
I thought the course was well organized and presented. The instructions were easy to follow. I was able to get started right away and submitted my first assignment within the first week.
Did you consider any other courses?
Yes. I searched the internet and found other courses but they took place in traditional classrooms within a specific time frame that did not suit me. Distance learning is more effective and appropriate for my learning style. I work efficiently and expeditiously on my own.
Ultimately, what do you want to do?
Upon completion of this course I am continuing my doctoral program and hope to finish within a year and a half. Afterwards I plan to establish counselling services for couples who are experiencing infertility, recurrent miscarriage, and grief, as well as for children who are the products of assisted reproduction, as well as breastfeeding and/or adoptive breastfeeding mothers.
What might you say to someone who was thinking of enrolling on the course?
This course was a fabulous experience and a wonderful way to become actively involved in the counselling profession. The course will provide the tools to get started on the road to a rewarding and satisfying career.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
My tutor, Robert Philip was wonderful. His feedback was timely, constructive and pertinent. I highly recommend him to anyone considering this course.
