To complete my retraining into a new career. I had completed introductory courses at evening class before but found this method of learning was difficult to juggle with my current working commitments.
Did you make any contact with the Institute before enrolling?
None, just reviewed the course outline on the website.
What was your impression of the course when it arrived?
Pleased with the course materials and also impressed that I received a text book to enhance the learning in the main pack.
Did you consider any other courses?
I did consider other courses with other distance learning providers but they were either cost prohibitive, lacked the depth of learning I required or did not offer accreditation or a logo for my website.
Ultimately, what do you want to do?
I would like to set up my own counseling practice and also provide training to business on counseling related subjects
What might you say to someone who was thinking of enrolling on the course?
I found this to be a good all round course which not only taught the counseling skills needed but also began to address some of the requirements for setting up in business.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
The only area in which I found the course lacking was on giving direction for people who wanted to continue their learning in a more serious way following completion of the course. It would have been advantageous for me to have information included on areas such as professional accreditation, e.g., how to obtain BACP status and also regulation in the industry. Also I would have appreciated the methods of supervision explained more fully.
