I am intending to set up my own wedding/event planning business and felt that the course would be a valuable asset to have as I do not have a background in event management.
I felt that potential clients would be more likely to trust me in this capacity if I had the qualification behind me.
Did you make any contact with the Institute before enrolling?
No.
What was your impression of the course when it arrived?
I was very pleased and relieved when the course arrived so quickly after paying my money as I felt like I was taking a bit of a risk. The material looked professionally put together and I didn't have any doubts then about having made the right decision to enrol on the course.
Did you consider any other courses?
I tried to find some on the internet, but to be honest this was the only one I found based in the UK as all the other ones I looked at were in America.
Ultimately, what do you want to do?
Have my own wedding/event planning business- and be successful.
What might you say to someone who was thinking of enrolling on the course?
The course has already provided me with quite a lot of valuable information and advice about how to successfully plan an event and I am only half way through it at the moment. I feel it covers the topics very thoroughly and definitely makes you think about things that you may not have even considered or known where to look for the answers, for example the square feet per person required for a sit down meal as opposed to a buffet. The course comes in a folder which can also be used as a reference tool in the future for planning events for real, and also enables you to get to know your local area as you need to do research and make contact with local firms in order to do some of the assignments. Overall, if this course ultimately helps me to establish myself as an event planner in my local area, then I would definitely say it is good value for money.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Having 2 young children both at home I find it a convenient way to study being able to do the entire course from home and being able to send my assignments via email. I also find that being able to do the course at my own pace with no deadlines for the assignments suits me. My tutor Jane Shaw has always marked them and returned her reply to me by the following day so I have never had to wait too long to find out her comments.
