Catering management for 12 years before I had my daughter and a great deal of that time was spent as a Conference and Banqueting co-ordinator. As my daughter approaches full time school I decided that I really wanted to go back into this line of work but working for myself. I enrolled on the course to get myself back up to speed with event management, to accquire new business skills and to gain a formal qualification. I know that it will stand me in good stead when I start my company next year.
Did you make any contact with the Institute before enrolling?
Only looking at the website and checking out costs etc of the course.
What was your impression of the course when it arrived?
Good. I thought the pack was really well put together and of decent quality.
Did you consider any other courses?
No, this one really suited my needs and fitted in with my lifestyle.
Ultimately, what do you want to do?
To successfully launch my own event planning company in the New Year.
How are you progressing with your course?
Well, I think! I started it in July and I aim to have finished it by the end of the year.
What might you say to someone who was thinking of enrolling on the course?
Go for it!! If event planning is something that you really feel you would be good at then this course is an ideal way of getting started, or in my case building on past experience.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I have had the support of a fantastic tutor, whose enthusiasm, comments and help generally have been much appreciated. I wish perhaps that the course had contained a bit more in the way of business management-like accounts for example but I am planning on supplementing this course with one arranged by my local enterprises trust.
