Case Studies - Diploma in Event Planning

Narcissa Junkas, Florida

Why did you enrol on the course?

Having always being the one to arrange for any event either at work or family related gave me a taste of what it would be like to be an event planner, and develop a desire to know alll the ins and outs of the field.

Did you make any contact with the Institute before enrolling?

Only via the website and liked the test drive with lesson 3.

What was your impression of the course when it arrived?

I thought it took a long time to arrive. I expected to receive the materials within a week, but rather was a little more than two weeks. When I first got it thought it would be a breeze, however, I found out that the course is in depth and you must do research.

Did you consider any other courses?

I did a lot of research on the web and locally in my area of residence (Central Florida). Found this course to be more what I was looking for. Price wise, is definitely less expensive than going to local universities which only offers some related courses but no degree in the area of event planning.

Ultimately, what do you want to do?

I currently work in an office as an accountant, but eventually, as I am getting to make contacts and networking my abilities to coordinate events, would like to become a full time self-employed event planner.

How are you progressing with your course?

When I first started I was going fast and enjoying every minute of it. Unfortunately, I had a death in the family which has affected both my family and myself tremendously. I will, however, pick up where I left off.

What might you say to someone who was thinking of enrolling on the course?

Be prepared to enjoy the course. You will need to have some initiative, of course you do, otherwise you would not even be thinking of event planning. The material it not just reading and answer questions, you will need to do more than that. That would only teach you the lingo, theories and the mapwork.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

In the work book there are some words that make a little more sense to people in England, but Americans (such as myself) finds them a little weird. When in doubt I ask the tutor assigned to me, which by the way, has proven to be PHENOMENAL. She is from California and an amazing woman she is . The work material is good, but my tutor is worth every penny.
