Case Studies - Diploma in Garden Design

Nick Walton, North Essex

Why did you enrol on the course?

I have enjoyed gardening for the last 12 years and I am at a point in my life where I'm looking to the future and want to have a career that I both enjoy and is less stressfull than my current employment.

Did you make any contact with the Institute before enrolling?

No, but I did research various courses.

What was your impression of the course when it arrived?

I was quite impressed with both the quantity and more impotantly the quality of the material.

Did you consider any other courses?

Yes, I researched a number of courses.

Ultimately, what do you want to do?

I want a garden design practice that is respected for providing quality advice / gardens.

How are you progressing with your course?

Not quite to the pace I would like, but that is down to a number of factors - A very demanding career and a young family - however the modules are well planned and I manage to submit the assignments on a monthly basis, with reasonable results.

What might you say to someone who was thinking of enrolling on the course?

First ensure it is what you want to do and enjoy it, don't treat it as a chore but embrace the assignments and challenge yourself and utilise your tutors experiance - you will always have your own ideas but they have many years expeiance - use it to your advantage.
