Why did you decide to enrol on the course?

I was looking to retrain for a second career in counselling after working in IT for seven years.

Did you make any contact with the Institute before enrolling?

No, just enrolled on line.

What was your impression of your course when it arrived?

The course materials were good, thankfully not a 'booky' course, lots of pracrical application involved so it wasn't too scary as I hadn't studied properly for such a long time. To be honest, the pack wasn't huge for the money but as I got reading I realised it's not about the paperwork, it's about learning and practising the skills in real life.

Did you consider any other courses?

One or two but either the hours did not suit or the course was too specialised and would not have helped me in my career move.

Ultimately, what do you want to do?

I would love to be a full time counsellor or life coach.

How are you progressing with your course?

I'm about half way through and on target with the time table I set myself. It was really tricky finding the time and motivation at first but the more modules you work through, the easier it gets and you learn what environment and learning systems work best for you.

What might you say to someone who was thinking of enrolling on the course?

Just to have faith in your own ability. If you've made the decision to retrain in counselling then you must have come to that choice for a reason. Also, make the most of your tutor. Just having some impartial backup is invaluable.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

Not really, just make the most of it. And realistically, it's only a few hours out of a week which could make such a difference to your own and someone elses future.
