Best of all, you can have an income and take charge of your life, while running a business you love.

Hi from Laura

Hello I'm Laura Kuy, and I want to show you how you can become a florist.

I began working in my local flower shop when I was a mere 13 years old. Since then I’ve worked in Buckingham Palace, St James' Palace and London's finest hotel, The Ritz. I’ve created arrangements for elegant hotels in New York City and on film sets. And now I’d love to share my knowledge with you.

Laura Kuy, Consultant Florist

Why become a florist?

It’s early in the morning and you’re getting ready to go to the flower markets and choose the best blooms for your floristry business. You stroll through the market, admiring the delicate roses and bold gerberas, picking out the highest quality flowers.

Or perhaps you make a cup of your favourite coffee and click to your favourite online suppliers for fresh blooms, florist’s wire, and bright ribbons.

Being a florist means starting early in the day – and you love it. You’re excited by running a hands-on business, where you get to call the shots. No more staring out the office window, trying not to fall asleep during another boring meeting. You’re in charge of everything, from finding clients to dreaming up innovative new designs.

Floristry isn’t just about the flowers – you get to work in a fast-paced and creative environment that’s never boring.

There has never been a better time to be a florist. If you want to open a tiny boutique flower shop and chat to customers in person, you can do that. Or if you’d rather build an online flower delivery empire, you can.

Your new customers are waiting for you

Humans have been using flowers to express their emotions for centuries. Flowers are timeless, and that means florists are always in demand. Did you know that the UK floristry industry is worth £2.2 billion? Florists can make upwards of £50,000 ($67,000) a year, with the most experienced making £65,000 ($87,000).

When people have an occasion to celebrate, or want to convey empathy and condolences, they need a florist.

Starting a new career as a florist means you’ll never lack potential customers. Your only limit is how much marketing you do – and our floristry course teaches you how to market your new business. Word of mouth also goes a long way in the floristy world. Your happy customers will tell their friends and family, and your business will bloom.

When your customers want to express joy, commiseration, love, congratulations, or just make an ordinary day more beautiful, you’ll be there for them.

Flowers for every occasion

Flowers are perfect for every occasion in life. Being a florist means creating eye-catching floral displays for every important moment.

You’ll be called on to provide flowers for weddings and funerals, for graduations and new jobs, retirement parties and new homes. Some people will pop into your shop or online store because they want to say “I love you” or “I’m sorry” or even just “happy Tuesday.” You’ll be extra busy around Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day. People will call on you to help them mark birthdays and anniversaries, wish their loved ones good luck, or celebrate the birth of a new baby.

Sometimes your customers will see your beautiful window displays and pop in because they want to give their home or office a pick-me-up.

And that’s just the beginning! If you’re keen to grow (pun absolutely intended) your business even further, you can target bigger clients such as sporting events, or state events. You can choose to open extra locations around the country. Your business can be as big as you want it to – you’re in charge.
