Diploma home-study courses

Would you like to become a therapist?

General prospectus

Calm waters. You could ease people's troubles. Now you can become a healer, thanks to our Diploma home-study courses in counselling and herbalism.

No matter where in the world you live, you can study with us, and have your own tutor.

By taking one of our courses, you can change your life for the better. You can also change the lives of others.

The courses are all home-study based. This means you can learn where and when you want. You can study at a pace that suits you; and you don't have to go out to a dusty classroom at inconvenient times.

Instead, we bring everything to you. Our courses contain all that you need, including the Practitioner's Manual.

Our courses - counselling and herbal medicine - are aimed at the would-be practitioner.

Counselling: With so much unhappiness and stress in the world, counselling will always be in demand. As a counsellor, you can help people come to terms with their bereavement, their depression, or their addiction. You can also help parents under-stand their child, which is an important area of counselling. In the workplace, more employers are bringing in a counsellor to resolve employees' problems, which is yet another opportunity for you.

Herbal medicine - Western medicine grew out of the skills of the herbalist; and within living memory the normal drugs were herbally based. Now people are moving back to simpler, kinder remedies, and those that are in keeping with a holistic lifestyle.

Help in setting up your practice

You may have discovered that some organisations' courses are rather theoretical. Some, for example, don't cover the all-important business aspects of the natural healing practice. Others provide only limited support and assessment.

By contrast, we take pride in the detailed and practical nature of our courses. The course includes details on how to set up and market your practice. This is an area that many of our students want information about.

And we can also help you get professional liability insurance.

Our courses are written in a clear and concise way. And we avoid jargon. That makes them easier to understand.

Add the incredibly useful Manual that comes with the practitioner's courses, and you can see why our courses are in such demand.

Once you've completed the course, you'll be able to set up your own practice. If this is something you've dreamt of, this is the course for you.

Excellent tutoring

Best of all is the tutoring. We use only friendly, highly experienced tutors who really know their subject, and who are active practitioners.

Secondly, we include a large number of tutor-marked assignments. (You'll find the actual number specified in the prospectus). This is in marked contrast to some courses which fob their students off with just five or six assignments, and who don't reveal this in their prospectus.

We know that the more practice you get, the more effective you'll be, so we don't skimp on the training.

International in scope

We have students from all over the world, including the USA, Canada, Ireland, France, Australia, New Zealand, France and Portugal.

We take full account of international issues, such as climatic zones.

And thanks to email, your assignments can be marked and returned to you as fast as if you were next door.

We're accredited by the Open and Distance Learning Quality Council (ODLQC).

Set up by the UK government in 1968, the ODLQC is the prime accreditation body for distance learning courses.

To achieve accreditation, we undergo a regular and rigorous assessment by independent experts. The assessment covers all aspects of our work, including administration, learner support, educational materials, and publicity. In order to keep our registration, we have to maintain high standards, which means you get a better course.

If you're unhappy with any aspect of the course, you can complain to the ODLQC. And you can bet we don't want complaints!

We are also registered with the Department for Education and Skills on its Register of Education and Training Providers. The Register is a list of genuine education and training providers in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The Register does not quality assure or accredit in any way the learning provision of any registered provider.

You can find us on the register by clicking here. We are registered under our corporate trading name of 'Home Study Courses Limited'.

How long does a course take?

You should allow a year to complete your course, though you might be able to finish it in six months. You can take as long as you want over the course - some students take years! We set no time limit, which is useful if you think you might need to interrupt your studies at some point.

Here are some of the ways we make it easy for you

  1. We provide a 30 day no-quibble refund. If you don't like the course, simply send it back to us and we'll return your money.

  2. We also undertake not to debit your credit card or cash your cheque/check before despatching your course. (If you enrol online, the bank automatically debits your account, so we have no control over that).
  3. If you haven't earned the cost of a course three months after completing it, we'll refund your money.
  4. You can also pay by instalments, which spreads the cost of the course.

If you have any questions about your chosen course, please email us at health@inst.org, or ring us on one of the numbers below. We look forward to welcoming you on to the course.
